EXPERIENCE: Mr. Schultz is a Real Estate developer and investor whose company, RHS Interests, Inc. has created, owns and operates specialty shopping centers, hotels and mixed-use properties throughout the Houston & Austin areas, United States and Europe. After receiving a BBA in Business – Finance at the University of Texas at Austin, he returned to Houston eventually forming his current business in 1989. His better-known developments in Houston include the Kroger Plaza at San Felipe located at Voss and San Felipe, the Plaza in the Park at Buffalo Speedway and Westpark, River Oaks Village Shopping Center, The Clear Lake Kroger Center, 3939 Montrose, Houston Metro Urology @ 4223 Richmond Avenue, 3622 Main St. and 3700 Main St. Hotel properties built by his partnership with Rob Axelson of Isis Investments include the InterContinental Hotel in the Uptown/Galleria area of Houston.
His most recently constructed project is a mixed-use lifestyle center overlooking Lake Travis in Austin, called Oasis, Texas. The project offers 75,000 SF of retail and office with stunning 450 ft. views of the lake and world famous sunsets.
Schultz ‘s current development includes the assemblage of more than two city blocks on Main Street in Houston, conveniently located halfway between downtown and the medical center along Houston’s rail line. Plans include a mixed-use development with 30,000 SF of retail below 363 apartment unitsand a 770 car parking garage. The development includes the rehabilitation of a historic 1920’s building to retain aspects of the city’s heritage. He also is one of the principals in the neighboring Continental Club, sister club to the legendary Austin music venue. Mr. Schultz’s community work currently includes his founding and current board of directorship with Harris County Improvement District No. 3, and he is a board member for The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art serving as President from 2010 to 2014.
He also served as a founding board member and former Chairman of the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 19, which is a public entity charged with the improvement and beautification of the Upper Kirby area and surrounding district. Mr. Schultz has participated in teaching the past 15 years with William Cannady at the Rice Graduate School of Architecture & Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University. Additionally, he served for 4 years on the Dean’s Council at the Rice School of Architecture.
